Common Research Design Types

1. Observational Studies

• Cross-sectional: Snapshot at one time point, suitable for prevalence
• Cohort: Follow a group over time, observe exposure-outcome relationships
• Case-control: Start from outcome, trace back to exposure factors

2. Experimental Studies

• Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT): Gold standard, randomization reduces bias
• Non-randomized trials: Alternative when randomization is not possible
